Ardour will do this even for plugins that have their own, if Edit Preferences GUI Use Plugins' own interface instead of Ardour's is disabled. The generic UI can be temporarily switched to by right clicking on a processor and selecting Edit with generic controls. This is necessary in order to access the plugin automation controls. Ardour 6.0 now allows recording from any position in a Channel's signal flow. Although it is conventional to record 'dry' signals and then add FX processing to them dynamically, sometimes you want to record an instrumental performance with some FX processing already applied to the signal. Is it possible to load Windows VST plugins in Ardour? I notice in my process list that there’s an ardourvst.exe. It’s not clear to me how to attempt this. If I can, or at least have the option of trying (I accept that at least some of them won’t work if this is possible), that’d be cool.

I don’t remember all the plugins I tried. It was a bunch of VST plugins, from many different sites. Free sampler vst that can stretch samples. I went to Edit Preferences Plugins. Then I added the path where I dumped the VST’s and selected “Scan for Plugins”. Ardour looks for VST plugins in the location (s) indicated by your environment variable VSTPLUGINS. If that is not set, it will use VSTPATH. If neither are set it will look in /usr/local/lib/vst and /usr/lib/vst (on x8664 and OS X, some additional directories will be searched, following conventions on thos platforms).
