Matt is ” Stellar, the next generation.” Matt puts a constantly changing face on our flutes. His inventive mind has led to many important technical breakthroughs. He is also our totem carver. Together Tom and Matt make a hardworking knowledgeable, and dynamic team. Tom knows he is lucky to have a son who loves flute making.

Lily is a versatile craftsperson involved in many parts of flute-making. She is now the primary flute decorator, and has taken that art to a whole new level. Her original block prints are used throughout our literature and on our DVD label

Our woods of choice are a combination of non-endangered North American woods and recycled woods. In the past we used rain-forest woods without understanding how harmful the destruction of the rain forests is to our one and only earth. Our wood supplier, Oby Johnson of Targo Woods in Bellingham, WA, helps us make choices that are safe for the environment.

Hi, I’m Miguel Medina and here is a little about myself. At about 19 yrs of age, I chose to turn back to the Creator for help and guidance. Almost instantly my life turned around, and the healing journey began. This journey brought me to leave my home in New York and travel the country. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands, and have made ends meet
on the road by crafting, leatherwork, jewelry, etc; selling at different craft
shows and flea markets along the way. While in Albuquerque, New Mexico I found my first flute. It was made by a friend and fellow musician. After giving me a few basic instructions, I learned very quickly and was a devoted flute player before long.

While vending at Trader Jacks flea market in Santa Fe, I met a flute maker named John EagleHeart. I watched him play the flutes while his son was napping next to him on a buffalo robe. I suppose he saw a gift in me and offered to teach me his craft. Within a week, I arrived at Johns house in Del Norte, Colorado, where I stayed for one month in his tipi, learning the art of flute making. This kind man is also a pipe carrier for the people, and poured for me, four of my first sweat lodge ceremonies, which is now a very important part of my life. This adventure was perfect for me, as John lived in this vast and beautiful desert with his wife and two children, in a home with no electricity or running water, and managed wonderfully. Truly a lesson of faith in the Creators ability to provide for us. The golden eagles that circled this land, were kind enough to bless me with one of their feathers, a symbol of the birth of my path on this Red Road, and the birth of SingingTree Flutes.

SingingTree Flutes has been in the works for eight plus years, having many different names before settling with this one. During this time, I have apprenticed many people, including Billy Spear of WildWood Flutes. We were neighbors for a long time sharing a workshop, as well as beliefs and a common goal. The goal being, to work with each other and other Artists to continuously improve our product, sharing ideas, advice and criticism. I truly believe our products are developing at an extremely rapid pace, thanks to the continuous feedback and “friendly competition” we offer each other. There is politics everywhere, including in the flute makers world, and I do my best to stay as far away from that as possible. I simply want to bring the healing beauty of the flute to people, in sound and aesthetics. Being an accomplished musician myself, I’m very critical with the tuning process, always using an electric tuner, and burning the holes for precision tuning. I demand that my flutes are perfectly tuned to themselves.

SingingTree’s “trademark flutes” are the Alternating Drone flute and the Major scale Drone flute which is similar to traditional Hungarian flutes for a beautiful Celtic sound. My flutes range in keys from high “G” to low “G”. They all are clear in sound, high tonal quality and good volume with a wide octave range. The styles and designs provided are all hand crafted by myself. The possibilities are unlimited. SingingTree’s flutes are never mass produced. Much time and care is taken in creating each and every flute. No flutes are sold until they have passed my final inspection. It is my obligation to assure your 110% satisfaction. Shades of Rez Flutes

Tim Blueflint (Bad River Chippewa and Comanche) was raised in the majesty and serenity of the Pacific Northwest. He learned to experience and appreciate the natural world with its beauty and complexities at an early age.

An avid Native American Dancer and Singer, Tim Blueflint was highly regarded and sought after as an exhibition dancer at many pow-wows in the West. He has been a champion Hoop and Fancy Dancer, as well as a well respected singer with many traditional drum groups.

Realizing the beauty and honor of his Native American heritage, he has been steadfastly dedicated to the preservation of the traditions and arts of his ancestors in accordance to the ongoing teachings and tutelage he has received from his “Sure-Enough” Grandmother, Blackstar (Comanche), a Holy Woman for her People and renowned silversmith.

It was Grandmother Blackstar who presented Tim Blueflint with his first flute many years ago. The result of this gift has been the enchantment and delight of many audiences who have described his original scores and compilations as “breathtakingly pure and traditional… an escape from the “new age-ness”” that the Native American flute has come to represent for many.

Now, he invites you to experience his new line of Traditional Native American Flutes, each individually crafted and painstakingly tuned. Shades of Rez flutes are made for performers by a performer. From traditional “warbling” flutes to the crystal clear and soothing voices of his contemporary flutes, you will feel and hear difference.

Quiet Bear Flutes

My flutes are a labor of love and my goal, as a full time flute maker, is to create flutes of high quality, craftsmanship, and resonance. I have a fascination for wood, for they not only have their own characteristics from the outside, but as a piece is cut and the inside is revealed you get to see the Creator’s handy work of colors and textures.

Over the years my unique antler blocks have become my signature. I hand craft each flute using only natural, non-toxic, environmentally safe products to seal and finish your flute. I then tune each flute to 440mz @ 72 degrees, sign, date and finish them off with my paw brand. It is then I believe the Creator puts the voice in them and they are ready for their journey.

Navajo Flutes

These flutes are handmade in pine wood by Navajo craftsman Jonah Thompson. Jonah is Dine and grew up on the Navajo Reservation in Kayenta, Arizona. He was taught flute making by his uncle. The flutes are available in natural, cherry or walnut finish, and feature a hand-carved animal fetish. Each is decorated with a wild turkey feather. They have six holes and are in the key of Am. They sound awesome and are great for beginners, as well as more experienced players. Each comes with a fleece bag.

The fetish or carving on top of the flutes creates the sound and needs to be in its proper position for the flute to play at its optimum (see instruction booklet)

If the flute has a leather tie in the middle of the fingering holes it indicates that there is another fingering hole under the leather tie giving an extra note when ready to use.

Native American Flute Vst Free Downloads

All the flutes are based on the minor pentatonic scale.

When used as a 5-hole flute it is in the pentatonic scale. When the 6th hole under the leather tie is exposed the flute will play the relative major key in both the Diatonic and Chromatic scales.

The mid-range and high-range flutes play 1&1/3 octaves. The bass flutes are a one-octave instrument.

The softwoods such as Cedar have a fine balance between warmth and clarity. The hardwoods like Walnut and Birch are very durable and have a bright clear voice.

Our flutes are made out of a single piece of wood (uni-body) – they are not laminated together.

The shorter flutes are very easy to play and learn on. The longer bore flutes have a deeper voice and are recommend for those that already play the Native flute or any other wind instrument.

Butch builds the 15 note, extended range native American style flutes heard on many best selling native American flute albums. Butch’s Little Horse A minor starter flute is the top selling native American style flute worldwide. Butch uses premium cedar and select hardwoods like walnut, maple and aspen. Occasionally, Butch will find special woods like koa, rosewood, tulipwood and others to build a few unique Native American style flutes.

“I build my flutes from exquisite, top quality, eastern red (aromatic) cedar, walnut and cherry woods. All of my flutes use the superior one piece drilled construction method. This gives you a more solid flute, without any delamination concerns that some of the two piece flutes face. Drilling is also very accurate, in as much as I can go right down the center of a flute, +/- .002 inch. That’s half the thickness of a dollar bill! It also makes for a prettier flute, without the glue lines.

Our flutes use an extended range pentatonic tuning. This is sometimes called a Mode 1-Mode 4 tuning. They have a total of 15 notes, covering an octave plus a
minor third. They also have a 12 tone chromatic octave within the minor pentatonic.”
