How to download and use VST Effects in WavePad Sound Editor:

1. Download one of the free VST effects from the above list. When you install these effects, you will need to specify a location on your computer to save them. It is normally a good idea to create a folder called 'VST' and save all your VST effects there.
2. Once you have downloaded and saved your VST plugin to your chosen VST folder, open WavePad and from the top Effects menu choose 'VST Plugins.'
3. This will open the VST plugins window. The first field called 'DLLs Folder' is the location where you saved your downloaded VST effects. You can browse for this location by clicking on the button with three dots on it or just type the path in directly. This will load the VSTs into the 'VST Plugin' list.
4. Use the drop down VST plugin list to select your VST plugin and click OK.
5. Your VST plugin will open in WavePad. You can still edit your waveform, and do whatever you would normally do in WavePad, except now what you hear is being processed by the new VST effect.To save the effect, you need to click the 'Apply' button on your effect. This will close the effect and save the audio with the new effect added.

AU -Audio Units is the plug-in format developed by Apple to coincidewith their new audio and MIDI technologies in OS X. Certain programslike Logic support Audio units exclusively, while other programs likeDigital Performer 4 support their own MAS format as well as AudioUnits. Audio Units are handled at the level of the OS X operating sytemitself and for programmers they can have a certain advantages in thattwo seperate engines exist for the GUI of the plug-in as well as thesound engine itself, allowing for a more advance user interfacedesign.

RTAS (Real Time Audio Suite) is a new plug-in format created byDigidesign for Pro Tools LE. RTAS is the next generation of AudioSuiteplug-ins. RTAS uses host based processing, your CPU, to run. RTAS isonly limited by the available CPU processing power. RTAS offers similarperformance to TDM in that each plug-in is fully automatable.

PowerCore
The Powercore format is a hardware-supported plugin that can be used inVST and Audio Unit compatible applications. Hardware supported pluginsrequire the hardware be present to run. They also take strain off theCPU by doing the processing in hardware, hence there is less of a drainon the computer for processing audio in real time. Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased. As part of a larger strategic review, they have decided to cease further development of the PowerCore product range, including hardware units as well as software for the PowerCore platform. LADSPA

LV2
LV2 (LADSPA version 2) is an open standard for plugins and matching host applications, mainly targeted at audio processing and generation. LV2 is a simple but extensible successor of LADSPA, intended to address the limitations of LADSPA which many applications have outgrown.
Currently there is support for LV2 in Ardour, Qtractor, Traverso DAW, and the Linux version of Audacity. LV2 replaces the former DSSI plugin infrastructure.
DSSI
DSSI stands for Disposable Soft Synth Interface. It is a virtual instrument (software synthesizer) plugin architecture for use by music sequencer applications. It was designed for applications running under Linux, although there is nothing specific to Linux in the interface itself.
